AI transformation manager job description template

First published 25 Oct 2026 · last updated 25 Oct 2026

An AI transformation manager changes how part of the business works, using AI as one of the tools. They pick the processes worth redesigning, write the business case, run the work from pilot to live use and track the savings or service gains. This template is based on the 7 UK AI transformation manager ads we have listed (posted between 15 Sep 2026 and 21 Oct 2026). 1 of them states pay and 2 say who the role reports to.

What an AI transformation manager does

These are the duties that come up again and again in the ads, in our words.

  • Find and size opportunities across the business, then agree priorities with senior leaders.
  • Write business cases and keep a roadmap of AI projects.
  • Run projects from discovery and design through build, rollout and adoption.
  • Work with technology and data teams so solutions can be supported and scaled.
  • Manage the people side: communication, training and resistance to change.
  • Track benefits against the plan and report them to leadership.

Who it reports to

Where these ads place the role depends on what is being changed. Some sit in a central transformation office or programme, such as JLL's Rewire office and The Economist's AI Transformation Programme. Others sit inside the function being changed: HR at Freshfields, Editorial at The Economist. The reporting line follows. The Economist's lead reports to the Editor and Executive Editors, and JLL's office lead reports to a platform and AI transformation office lead.

Only 2 of the 7 ads state the reporting line. Put it in yours: it tells candidates how senior the job is.

How cross-functional it is

The ads name the business areas being changed, the technology and data teams who build, and finance, who sign off the savings. JLL's ad has the office lead tracking committed savings with finance, HR and business line leaders, and counts success as benefit realised against plan, evidenced with finance.

Typical pay from our ads

What good ads include

  • The pay. 6 of these 7 ads leave it out.
  • Who the role reports to, and which teams it works with. 5 of the 7 ads don't give a reporting line.
  • Which AI tools are approved, and what the person can change about them.
  • How success will be measured in the first year.
  • The contract (permanent or fixed term) and the office pattern.
  • Whether any coding is needed. If it isn't, say so, so people from operations, HR and L&D know they can apply.
